Health benefits
Omega-3 fatty acids
A large number of scientific studies have highlighted the multiple benefits of dietary omega-3 fatty acids from fish oils in areas as diverse as heart, brain, joint, and bone health. In fact it seems that these fatty acids are important in almost every aspect of health.
Heart health
In one of the most extensively studied areas, cardiovascular health, it has been shown that omega-3 fatty acids may play an important role in helping to maintain healthy cholesterol and trigylceride levels. Fish oils may also help to maintain the elasticity of artery walls and a normal healthy blood pressure. To help keep your heart healthy, increase your intake of omega-3 fatty acids by eating more oily fish or taking a high-quality fish oil supplement like Aquamarine™.
Joint Health
Omega-3 fatty acids may be beneficial for joints and can help maintain cartilage health. Omega-3 fatty acids, in particular EPA is a precursor to prostaglandins. Omega-3 fatty acids may also support bone health by influencing bone cell activity. A regular intake of omega-3 fatty acids is useful for individuals who are taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Brain Health
In recent years the role of omega-3 fatty acids in brain function and vision has received extensive interest. Remarkably approximately 20% of our brain is made up of long chain fatty acids (dry weight). DHA is the predominant fatty acid in the central nervous system, found in the walls of brain cells and is important in the natural repair process. EPA is important for the maintenance and development of optimal brain function and cell signalling (the process of communication between nerve cells). The significance of Omega-3 in the learning ability and concentration of children (as well as adults) is being increasingly recognised by health professionals.
Vitamin D - This vitamin is produced within the body when the skin is exposed to the sun but some people are not always exposed to enough sun to generate adequate vitamin D especially in the winter Without sufficient vitamin D the body cannot absorb calcium from food or supplements.Vitamin D is best known for its role in bone health but new research shows that it may also be important in areas such as the immune system.
Vitamin E - An important nutrient and antioxidant, which works at a cellular level to help protect against potentially harmful free radicals (the unstable molecules that cause damage to cells). It offers a multitude of benefits including helping to maintain heart health, supporting the immune system and the health of the skin.
Vitamin A - The cod liver oil in Aquamarine™ also provides low levels of vitamin A. Also known as retinol, vitamin A is probably best known for its role in eye health, supporting the immune system, in promoting skin health and healing, and in its benefits to the lining of the digestive tract.
